Major travel destinations

AirPlus has released its rankings of the most important destinations for German business travelers. At the top of the list, just barely ahead of the others, are Berlin, London and Moscow. Berlin is worth the (business) trip. Just like London or Moscow. These three cities are the “winners” on the list of German, European and international destinations for business travelers from Germany. AirPlus Deutschland’s current statistics on the top 5 travel destinations in 2008, however, show that these metropolises have maintained their first place on the winner’s podium in some instances by only a hair’s-breadth. …German business travelers book their flights earlier then they used to? On average, large corporations book Economy-class tickets 14.4 days prior to departure (last year: 13.6 days); Business-class tickets are bought 7.5 (5) days in advance. Medium-sized companies purchase their Economy-class tickets 17 (16) days and their Business-class tickets almost 10 (6.88) days in advance. In the current economic crisis, German companies apparently are not saving money by flying less, but by making clever bookings. This is also apparent in the decreased number of ticket cancellations. …full-time travel management remains unusual? Only 13% of companies employ a full-time travel manager, the majority% of those responsible for travel management are assistants or secretaries. Travel management, especially in small and medium-sized companies, is something that is done more or less alongside another job. The proportion of full-time travel managers is largest in companies that have a high volume of travel. Read more
